7.3.5.6   Using the LNAV and VNAV modes


Prerequisite
Following the steps as described in the section about flight preparations, a flight route has been defined on the RTE page of the FMS.

The autopilot modes to execute the flightplan are LNAV and VNAV.

 

Activate the LNAV mode:

The aircraft is flying with activated autopilot.

Press the LNAV button:

The aircraft will immediately start turning towards the first waypoint. At the same time, the cruise speed from the flightplan will be set as target speed.

The LNAV mode can be terminated at any time by pressing the HDG / TRK HOLD button, which will activate the basic modes TRK, SPD and ALT. The current track over ground, speed and altitude will be taken as target values for these modes.

 

Activate the VNAV mode:

The aircraft is flying with activated autopilot and the LNAV mode has already been activated.

Press the VNAV button:

The aircraft will immediately start climbing (or descending) in order to reach and capture the defined cruise altitude.
